St. Joseph County, Indiana desperately needed to update their sign regulations. New standards were adopted to best conform with industry standards and allow for creative sign development.
Signs are one of the most regulated land uses and one of the most litigated because of First Amendment protections.
A complete replacement of the sign regulations for St. Joseph County, Indiana was necessary to modernize the standards and make it easier to understand. The code was replaced with a graphically assisted ordinance to visually represent the regulations. The ordinance was carefully crafted to ensure compliance with state law, federal law, and important Supreme Court cases such as Reed v Town of Gilbert.
