The City of Bronson, Michigan sought to replace their master plan concurrently with a new zoning ordinance that reflects the goals and desires of the community that were discovered through public engagement in the master planning process. This allowed the planning team to show the community the deep connection between the master plan and zoning ordinance, developing strong community buy in.

Both the master plan and zoning ordinance were developed using a modern style, including engaging graphics, maps, and plain English text to make the information in both documents easily understood by the public, consultants, and city officials. Creating these important documents this way also encourages ease of implementation and curates a sense of community pride.

Both the master plan and zoning ordinances are in the adoption process, expected to be adopted by the end of 2024.
